A: There is only one export farm out of our 8 accredited export farms banned by the authorities of Singapore. Salmonella infection in chickens can be due to many factors. It is the bacteria that can be commonly found in the environment and therefore chickens may get the bacteria from long list of possibilities. However, our company have reviewed our internal monitoring and control measures so that our customer’s health will not be compromised and they are remain confident in our products.
Q2) Any possibility that other farms also have the same problem but not detected by authority yet?
A: We have immediately strengthen our existing internal monitoring and control measures across all the farms apart from our stringent protocol as stated in our National Salmonella Control and Eradication Programme (NASCEP) by the Department of Veterinary Services, Malaysia. We also strengthen our Food Safety Management Systems by reviewing and take all the necessary measures as stated in our Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP). We would like to add that our recent internal monitoring and investigation have so far revealed that our other farms are not affected.
For your information, Salmonella bacteria will be killed / deactivated when they are exposed to a temperature above 60 Degree Celsius. Therefore, the eggs should be cooked until both egg yolk and egg white are firm.
Q3) i understand that teo seng is currently expanding the farms and can i know what is the status and progress now?
A: Teo Seng is progressively expanding its farming projects and other supporting businesses. At present, it is the third largest egg producer in Malaysia and prepare to be the second largest egg producer in line with its expansion plans. There are a lot of on-going projects to enhance the future earnings of the Group.
Q4: May I know what is the contribution of farm 8 (the one banned by Singapore) in terms of group's total capacity?
A:The contribution of farm 8 is not significant and we can resubmit our application for approval. Besides, we can also replace other farms for exporting eggs to Singapore.
Q5: I was told that there is restructuring on going at leong hup group of companies involving Teo Seng as well, wondering could you share some brief information regarding that?
A:We were told that there are some changes on the group structure of Leong Hup. So far, nothings have come to our attention which will affect Teo Seng.
